During the nation-wide campaign, poster making, hand-bill distribution, local get-togethers and seminars will be conducted as a part of the peaceful agenda, all over the country.
NEW DELHI — In the wake of the growing incidents of attacks on minorities and weaker sections, particularly Muslims, the Popular Front of India (PFI) has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign with the slogan, “Live without Fear, Live with Dignity”. The campaign is aimed at creating awareness at all levels and will conclude on August 31, 2019.
The decision was taken at PFI’s Central Secretariat meeting. It highlighted the need for collective efforts in order to provide security to the lives of minorities and weaker sections vulnerable to the occasional Hindutva mob attacks and ongoing hate crimes in the country.
PFI Chairman E. Abubacker pointed out how immediately after the election results, the Prime Minister had promised that new steps will be undertaken in order to win over the trust of the minorities. The high brow phrase, ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vishwas’ was used in this regard, as he himself called it.
“However, it soon became clear that either his assurances were mere rhetorics or his BJP workers or RSS cadres did not bother to respect his words. From the Parliament to the streets, they are enforcing the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant on others. BJP MPs had discredited the name of Shri Ram in the Parliament, but it has become a motivation for Hindutva goons to repeat even in remote town and villages,” he added.
Referring to countless incidents of attacks on Muslims and Dalits since the Modi Government was re-elected, he said that it has now become an almost daily occurrence where any Muslim or Dalit can be brutally lynched anywhere, citing one flimsy reason or other. Even children and elderly people are not spared by the communally frenzied mobs.
The meeting noted how the government failed to protect the hapless sections of the society when in fact, it is the primary duty of any government to provide protection to the lives and properties of the citizens.
Briefing about the campaign, he said that it is aimed at creating awareness even at village panchayats and Resident Associations, Mohalla Committees, and all possible levels. During the nation-wide campaign, poster making, hand-bill distribution, local get-togethers and seminars will be duly conducted as a part of the peaceful agenda, all over the country.
Popular Front members and functionaries will reportedly meet community leaders and political leaders to convince them about their role in ensuring social security. Building liaisons with the local administration and police personnel for the purpose is also a part of the campaign.
