Pakistan Arrests Hafiz Saeed, Sent to Judicial Custody

NEW DELHI — The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Pakistan on Wednesday has arrested Hafiz Muhammad Saeed while he was going to Gujranwala from Lahore, Geo News reported.

The TV channel reported that  Saeed has been taken into custody as part of government’s crackdown against banned organizations.

He was on his way to Gujranwala to file a bail plea in a case when the CTD detained him, the report said.

Saeed has been accused by India to be the mastermind of the Mumbai terror attacks of 2008.

A spokesman for the CTD says Hafiz Saeed has been sent on judicial remand after being presented in an Anti-Terrorism Court.

He said a case against Hafiz Saeed was registered under Anti-Terrorism act and he would be produced before the court shortly after challan is prepared.
