NEW DELHI — After the final post-mortem report of Tabrez Ansari, a mob-lynching victim of Jharkhand, Police has dropped murder charges against all 11 accused saying that doctors have stated in the autopsy report that he died due to cardiac arrest.

According to a report in the Indian Express, police have cited the post-mortem report to drop the murder charges against the group of accused persons and also said that it was not a pre-meditated murder.

The accused in the Jharkhand lynching case will not get capital punishment but will be charged under IPC Section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The accused were earlier charged with Section 302 (murder).

Based on the FIR of Ansari, a murder case had been slapped against 11 people who had thrashed Ansari.

The final report of the post-mortem seems to have given a clean chit to the policemen, doctors and people involved in assaulting Ansari.

“The final post-mortem report indicated that it was not a pre-planned murder of Tabrez Ansari. As per the post-mortem report Tabrez Ansari died due to cardiac arrest. The report also mentioned fracture in the brain,” said Kartik, SP of Seraikela-Kharsawa district, reports IANS.

22-year-old Tabrez Ansari was brutally thrashed by a mob on June 17 on the allegations of bike theft and was made to chant Jai Shri Ram and Jai Hanuman. He died after five days in judicial custody.

Eleven people were arrested in the case.

According to his family members, Tabrez was returning after meeting his aunt from Jamshedpur on June 17 night when some people of Dhatkidih village caught hold of him and branded him a thief.

He was taken to the Sadar Hospital for primary medical aid before taking him in judicial custody. His condition deteriorated and he died on June 22.

As per initial report of the probe team, the police reacted late and doctors did not treat Ansari’s injuries properly.
