Give us that India where Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christians live peacefully and are ready to give their life for each other, said Ghulam Nabi Azad
NEW DELHI — Senior Congress leader and Member of Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Prliament) Ghulam Nabi Azad, while speaking in Rajya Sabha on Monday, said that Modi government can keep its New India to itself and return the Old India to the people of the country.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said “In Old India, there was no enmity, no anger, hate, lynchings. In this New India, man has become man’s enemy. Give us that India where Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christians live peacefully and are ready to give their life for each other,” The Indian Express reported.
On Prime Minister’s ‘Sabka saath sabka vikas’, Ghulam Nabi Azad said we are able to see it anywhere.
He also said, “Jharkhand has become a factory of lynching & violence. Dalits & Muslims are killed there every week. PM, we are with you in the fight of ‘Sabka saath sabka vikas’ but it should be there for people to see it. We can’t see it anywhere.”
Jharkhand, had witnessed a spate of lynchings in the past few years. In 2016, a Muslim cattle trader and a 12-year-old boy accompanying him was beaten up and killed by a mob and their bodies hung from a tree in Latehar district. Eight men were sentenced to life for the killings.
In 2018, Union minister Jayant Sinha faced criticism for garlanding seven men accused of killing a Muslim tempo driver in Ramgarh on suspicion of smuggling cow meat. The men were later released on bail after which they met Sinha.
BJP’s Raghubar Das, chief minister of Jharkhand, however, had ordered ‘strict action’ against the ‘culprits’ responsible for the Ramgarh lynching incident.
