NEW DELHI: The Welfare Party of India today launched a nationwide campaign against the draconian laws that are usurping the basic and fundamental rights of the common people particularly those belonging to weaker sections of the society. The inaugural of the campaign was held near Parliament of India, which has passed these laws in last two decades.
Inaugurating the campaign at the protest rally here today, former chief justice of Delhi High Court Justice RajendarSachar applauded the decision of the Welfare Party to launch a campaign against draconian laws like TADA, POTA, UAPA etc. and the special laws operative in the border states of the country like Kashmir and North East.
“All these laws are to suppress common people – minorities are the worst affected section as hundreds of their youths have been put behind bars in false terror cases,” said Justice Sachar and offered full support of his People’s Union for Civil Liberties to the campaign
and any such move of the Welfare Party to remove such laws. He informed that his group is collecting 10 lakh signatures against the sedition law and asked Welfare Party leaders to support the campaign.
In his keynote speech, Dr SQR Ilyas, General Secretary of the Welfare Party said the center and state governments are enacting such harsh laws, in the name of war on terror, that our country would soon become a police state. “Black laws have usurped the fundamental rights of the common people. These laws are giving state authorities license to unleash terror in the name of checking terror,” said Dr. Ilyas.
The rally was also addressed by Ravi Nayar of South Asia Study of Human Rights, former IG, Uttar Pradesh, SR Darapuri, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, president All India Muslim MajliseMushawarat, NeyazFarooqui, Secretary, JamiatUlama-e-Hind, DrTasleemRahmani, President, Muslim Political Council of India, BhaiTej Singh of AmbedkarSamaj Party.
