Deeply saddened to know of the untimely demise of former Union Minister Arun Jaitley: Ashok Gehlot
NEW DELHI — While the condolences pouring in at the sad demise of Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley from senior leaders cutting across the political parties, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday said his contribution to public life will forever be remembered.
In a statement, Sonia Gandhi expressed deep pain and distress at the untimely passing away of Jaitley.
Condoling his death Sonia Gandhi said, “Jaitley had a long innings as a public figure, Parliamentarian and Minister and his contributions to public life will forever be remembered.”
Jaitley, who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on August 9, passed away on Saturday afternoon at the age of 66. He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathlessness and restlessness.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that former Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley was a great orator and an outstanding parliamentarian.
The country has lost a great leader who always worked for the betterment of society, Singh said.
In his condolence letter to Jaitley’s wife, Sangeeta Jaitley, Manmohan Singh said, “I have learnt with profound sorrow about the sad and shocking news of the untimely demise of our beloved Arun Jaitley.”
“He was an eminent lawyer, an excellent orator, a very good administrator and an outstanding parliamentarian. In his death the country has lost a great leader who always worked for the betterment of society,” he said.
The former Prime Minister said that “I take this opportunity to convey to you and other members of your family my heartfelt condolences on this bereavement”.
Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Saturday condoled the death of former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said:
“I am sorry to hear about Arun Jaitley’s passing. My condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace,” Gandhi tweeted.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condoling the death of Arun Jaitley said in a tweet:
“Deeply saddened to know of the untimely demise of former Union Minister and senior BJP leader, Sh #ArunJaitley. My heartfelt condolences to his family members. May God give them strength. May his soul rest in peace.”
Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje also paid tribute to Jaitley. She said: “Jaitley’s death is not only a big loss to the BJP, but it is also a big loss to me as he always acted like an elder brother to me. He was helpful to one and all and he held the country high by taking many significant initiatives during his tenure as a finance minister.”
