Young singer and winner of talent show ‘Saregama’ enthralls Indian community with choicest ghazals and Bollywood songs

RIYADH – Indian Ghazal maestro and winner of popular TV talent show Saregama, Mohammed Vakil, enthralled enthusiastic audience at Riyadh for hours with selected ghazals and popular Bollywood songs.
The event was staged at Alfaris Isteraha Riyadh. Vakil was exclusively invited to dazzle everyone with his mesmerizing performance on the occasion to felicitate the prominent Indian businessman from Riyadh Dr. Nadeem Tarin, who has been recently conferred upon an honorary Doctorate of Literature degree from Aligarh Muslim University. A Memento was presented to him and his services were enthusiastically applauded.
Mohammed Vakil started the show with a hymn (Hamd) “Tu hi banata hai” then came “Khaja mere khaja”. This was followed by “Teja tera rang tha”, “Tujhe dekh dekh jeena”, “Main jahan rahoon”, Tere mast mast do nain”, “Dagha baaz re”, “Main Tenu samjhawan ki”. He also presented the famous Qawali of Veer Zara “Aya tere dar pe dewana”. Vakil performed some of the hit numbers of Mohammed Rafi, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali, and other stalwarts.
Despite cold and being an open air function, the audience fully enjoyed each and every moment and appreciated Vakil’s performance with thundering rounds of applause. Vakil too reciprocated by fulfilling most of the listeners’ requests of songs. This proved to be a remarkable experience to the visiting artist and people could take with them a treasure of fond memories.
The musical concert was organized by the distinguished Indian expatriates in Riyadh Abdulaziz Shamim Khan, Pervaiz Rahman, Arch. Abdul Rahman Saleem, Shahid Z. Siddqui, Engr. Sayeed Uddin, Dr. Dilnawaz Romi, Khursheed S. Khan.
A.A. Shamim Khan beautifully anchored the event while Arch. MAR Saleem introduced the history of Ghazal and equally interesting profile of Mohammed Vakil. Accompanying artists on the stage were Ghulam Ghouse on Tabla and Ashfaq Ahmed on Keyboard.
Shahid Siddqui, a senior banker and one of the organizers, said that he had been living in Riyadh for more than two decades and by far this is the best musical event that he has attended. He said that he enjoyed Mohammed Vakil’s performance very much and described him as awesome. He added that this type of programs should be organized at least quarterly as the people of Riyadh don’t have any such entertaining events.
The 39-year old Vakil hails from Jaipur, India from a family of well-known Ghazal singers and the famous Jaipur Gharana. Vakil takes guidance and motivation from his maternal uncles Ustad Ahmed Hussain and Ustad Mohammed Hussain. Prominent members of the Indian community and their families were present on the occasion.
Vakil thanked the organizers and added that Shamim Khan and Pervez Rahman always encouraged him and provided opportunities to perform in Riyadh. The Indian community in Saudi Arabia are true music lovers and have good taste for music, that is why I visit the Kingdom regularly, he added.
During the concert, Vakil appreciated Dr. Sayeed Mohiuddin for creating and maintaining his website www.mohammedvakil.com for the last five years.
Earlier, prominent businessman and General Manager of Jahan Jewelers Mir Muzafar Ali presented a traditional BISHT, shawl and a gift of hamper to the Dr. Nadeeem Tarin. He also presented the traditional shawls and gift hampers to Mohammed Vakil and his troupe.
Shahid Z. Siddqui also presented gift hampers to Dr. Nadeem Tarin.
The beautiful event concluded with a vote of thanks by Khursheed S Khan. Photo sessions and dinner marked the culmination of an unforgettable evening.
