KANNUR – Reports of a bomb explosion at Naduvil in Kannur district started emerging on Saturday afternoon. Later, it was found to be country-made bombs that exploded on the compound of an RSS worker, M Shibu. Two children, including Shibu’s son, were injured in the explosion.
The children, 7-year-old Gokul and Shibu’s relative’s son 12-year-old Kajinraj, were apparently clearing a few articles on the compound of Shibu’s house to build a bird cage when the incident happened. The two were standing near the bombs, which were hidden behind a heap of debris on the premises.
Gokul and Kajinraj suffered serious burn injuries in the incident. While one has injuries on a leg, the other has sustained injuries below the waist. They are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
According to the police, the bombs were stocked on the premises of Shibu’s house.
Shibu has been booked under Section 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, Section 25 (a), (1A), (1B) of Arms Act. “There are already some criminal cases against Shibu in the station. He has not been arrested now as he is missing after the incident,” a police official at the Kudiyanmala Police Station told The News Minute.
Soon after the incident, the police and bomb squad reached the spot and raided the house. The police then found some materials, apparently, used to bombs, including 3 kg Aluminium powder, 600 gram of gun powder and fuse wire from the house, reports The Hindu.
The police also found seven swords, a hand axe and an iron rod from Shibu’s house. The police suspect that Shibu’s house has been used as a weapon storage area and has intensified vigil in the area.
