MUMBAI — Senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut on Sunday openly defied the Election Commission over the model of conduct and said that he didn’t care about the law.
While addressing a rally in Mira-Bhayander Raut made objectionable remarks on the model code of conduct.
Raut reportedly said there’s always a fear of MCC and the Election Commission was constantly reminding politicians of the law.
The Shiv Sena leader Raut is not new to controversies but his latest remarks can be taken up by the Election Commission for action against him for contempt. What’s shocking in Raut’s statement is the fact that he does not only mocks the EC but also expresses utter disregard for the law.
“Hum aise log hain. Bhaad mein gaya kanoon, achar sanhita bhi hum dekh lenge. Jo baat hamare mann mein hai wo agar hum mann se bahar nahi nikalein to ghutan si hoti hai (We are such people. To hell with the law, we’ll deal with the Model Code of Conduct. Whatever comes to our mind we must speak out otherwise we feel claustrophobic)”, the Sena leader told the crowd, reports NDTV.
The Election Commission has not yet commented on Sanjay Raut’s remarks.
Last week, the Mumbai district election officer had issued a notice to Sena leader for alleged violation of the MCC over his comments against Kanhaiya Kumar, the CPI candidate from Begusarai in Bihar.
Sanjay Raut who is also the editor of Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamana, said in the editorial that Kanhaiya Kumar must be defeated in the upcoming elections, even if it needed the BJP to “tamper with EVMs”.
Kanhaiya Kumar, the former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University’s student union, is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha poll from Bihar’s Begusarai.
