PATNA: Several thousand Muslims gathered in Patna from across the state of Bihar to oppose any interference by government in Shariat. At the call of Imarat Shariah, which was supported by all major Muslim organizations, including Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Jamiat Ahle Hadees, people gathered in the state capital’s historic Gandhi Maidan.

Today’s peaceful protest demonstration was part of the recent Shariat campaign launched by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board in the wake of the central BJP government’s bill to criminalize Triple Talaq.

Under the leadership of Imarat chief, known as Ameer-e Sharait, Maulana Mohammad Wali Rahmani, aggressive preparations were being made for the last several weeks for today’s conference.

Besides Maulana Rahmani, leaders of various Muslim religious organizations addressed the gathering.

Named as Deen Bachao, Desh Bachao Conference, several resolutions were passed at the event, seeking withdrawal of the Triple Talaq Bill and an end to atrocities against dalits.

According to a Patna-based news portal, today’s conference had gathering as massive as that of the Sampoorna Kranti rally of JP movement and Lalu Yadav’s Gharib Rally. But today’s conference was different from the other two in that it had only Muslims as participant.
