LUCKNOW — Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched her roadshow promising a “new future” here on Monday on her first visit after becoming the General Secretary in charge of East Uttar Pradesh along with her brother and Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Congress General Secretary in charge of western Uttar Pradesh, also accompanied them.
Priyanka, the Congress general secretary in charge of eastern Uttar Pradesh, had called for a new beginning in an audio message circulated by her party a day before reaching Lucknow.
In the audio message on Sunday, Priyanka Gandhi asked the youth, women and the weaker sections of society to join the efforts to build a “new future”. “I am reaching Lucknow on Monday to meet you all. I hope we all will make a new beginning in politics that will include you all. My young friends, my sisters, and weakest person, all will have a say. Come let’s build this new politics and a new future,” she said through the Congress’s Shakti App.

Congress workers welcome Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi with traditional dhol when they landed at the Lucknow airport. Congress top brass including Uttar Pradesh Congress unit chief Raj Babbar were also present at the airport to welcome them.
The Congress office at Mall Avenue has been painted afresh and decorated with hundreds of kilos of marigold and other flowers. The entire route which the motorcade of the Gandhi scion will weave through the city has been plastered with posters, hoardings and banners.
“Aa gayi badlaav ki aandhi, Rahul sung Priyanka Gandhi” (Change is coming, Rahul along with Priyanka Gandhi), was a favourite slogan. Many Congress activists wore caps and T-shirts with Priyanka’s picture embossed on them.
She along with Rahul Gandhi and Scindia then boarded an open truck decorated with garlands for the roadshow. Setting out from the airport, it will go around the city and culminate at the party headquarters.
Earlier on Sunday, Congress UP Chief Raj Babbar had said, “Uttar Pradesh is feeling privileged as Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is beginning her active politics from here….We can see hoardings with slogans ‘Badlav ki aandhi, Rahul sang Priyanka Gandhi (Winds of change, with Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi)’. And these are the feelings of all partymen. We will accord her an unprecedented welcome.”
