Uttarakhand Govt Giving Step-Motherly Treatment to Unani Medicine: Tibbi Convention

DEHRADOON — The All India Tibbi Congress’s Uttarakhand unit held its third convention here on the ‘State of Unani Medicine’ in this hilly state on Friday. The Convention said the Uttarakhand government’s department of AYUSH is giving step-motherly treatment to the Unani medicine. It highlighted that the government has appointed only one Unani medical officer while Ayurvedic has around 1,000 medical officers.

Uttarakhand Tibbi Congress president Dr Mohammad Aslam Qasmi said the Central government has set up AYUSH ministry for the promotion of all traditional Indian medicines but the state governments are not doing justice with other Indian medicines except Ayurvedic.

In his presidential speech, Dr Qasmi said the previous Congress government in the state had sanctioned a government Unani college at Kaliar Sharif and its foundation stone was also laid last year but there is no progress after the BJP came to power in this state. He also pointed out that in the National Rural Health Scheme (NRHM) not a single Unani doctor was appointed by the state government till date.

Furthermore, he added that the government did not open any new Unani dispensary but it appointed Ayurvedic doctors in these dispensaries.

Presenting the report on Unani medicine’s state of affairs in Uttarakhand, Dr Mohammad Yousuf Ansari said there are only five Unani medical officers working in the whole state while in contrast, Ayurvedic has 1,000 officers. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Syed Farooq, patron of Tibbi Congress, urged Unani graduates to suggest maximum Unani medicines to patients. He also asked the Unani pharmacists and medicos to strictly adhere GMP in preparing medicines. He said the government is bringing new legislation law on pharmacy and drug based on strict scientific parameters.

Lauding the efforts of All India Tibbi Congress, Prof Roohul Amin from Dhaka base Habibia Tibbiya College (Bangladesh) said the Unani medicine is a complete system of medicine. He announced the Unani Tibb Day function will be held next year on February 12, 2018.

On the occasion, Tibbi Congress secretary general Dr Syed Ahmad Khan said Dr Amin was appointed as Bangladesh’s Convener of Tibbi Congress. He said his appointment will give an impetus to Unani activities in Bangladesh and other areas.

Presenting a report of the Tibbi Congress, Dr Syed said Unani medicine day function will be held in Kolkata and 28th national convention on Unani medicine will be held on September 16 in Gujarat’s Ahmadabad.

In the convention, the annual report ‘Nuqush-e-Kehkashan’ was released which was compiled by Hakim Ataur Rahman Ajmali.
