NEW DELHI: Former Vishwa Hindu Parishad president Pravin Togadia on Sunday launched his new political outfit in New Delhi. At the inaugural meeting, he targeted his ex-friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not fulfilling the promises he had made to the Hindu voters during 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

He said his party AHP will present itself as a “Hindu alternative” to the BJP.

“The Modi government has failed the Hindu community, which stood solidly behind it during 2014 elections. They have failed to build the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. They haven’t kept their promise of abolishing Article 370 and 35A in Kashmir. Kashmiri pandits are still waiting to be resettled in the Valley,” Togadia was quoted as saying by National Herald at the party’s inaugural function in New Delhi.

He also said that PM Modi failed to keep his promises to farmers and youths also.

“The PM had promised 10 crore jobs. He has failed the youth on that. To farmers, he guaranteed 1.5 times the Minimum Support Price. Not a single farmer in the country has received that benefit. We have farmers committing suicides on daily basis,” Togadia said.

Later, at a press conference, he outlined his party’s expansion plans for the coming months.

“Our aim is to get twenty crore signatures by October on our Hindu charter of demands. With those signatures, we will carry out something from Lucknow to Ayodhya in October. There will be something. You will see it,” said Togadia.

At this juncture, it is difficult to say if his political venture will end up helping or harming the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
