PATNA: Several thousand Muslims gathered in Patna from across the state of Bihar to oppose any interference by government in Shariat. At the call of Imarat Shariah, which was supported by all major Muslim organizations, including Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Jamiat Ahle Hadees, people gathered in the state capital’s historic Gandhi Maidan.
Today’s peaceful protest demonstration was part of the recent Shariat campaign launched by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board in the wake of the central BJP government’s bill to criminalize Triple Talaq.
Besides Maulana Rahmani, leaders of various Muslim religious organizations addressed the gathering.
According to a Patna-based news portal Naukarshahi.com, today’s conference had gathering as massive as that of the Sampoorna Kranti rally of JP movement and Lalu Yadav’s Gharib Rally. But today’s conference was different from the other two in that it had only Muslims as participant.
