RAMPUR (UTTAR PRADESH) — A Muslim family from Shahbad town in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh has alleged that members of a Hindutva outfit has abducted their youngest daughter, 14, and forcefully converted her into Hindu religion. In a video message posted on social media last week, the family also alleged that the local police were not listening to them, rather threatening them. However, latest media reports say that after the video went viral and the family approached the higher police officers, the girl has been recovered and sent to a shelter home.
“My dear Muslim brothers, my name is Nadeem Ahmad. I am resident of Shahbad town of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh. This is my mother and sister,” says brother of the abducted girl while pointing to his mother and another sister standing on his sides in the video. “We are two brothers and five sisters. My younger brother is admitted in hospital. My youngest sister’s name is Mahek. Hindutva outfits have abducted her. They are not allowing us to meet her nor to talk to her. When we talked to them, they said that she is Hindu not Muslim and blamed us that we converted her as Muslim,” he says and alleges police of inaction.
“Police are not taking any action. We approached SP, IG, DIG but none is hearing us. I have all the documents about my sister — from her marksheets to Aadhaar card and PAN card etc. Instead, police are threatening us of filing false cases against us. Police are threatening us. We are in trouble. Please call to my number 8010252244 and share this video as much as you can to help us,” Nadeem ends the 1.26-minute video on this appeal.
The video posted on social media on (Friday) 5th October has since gone viral. And consequently, the police have initiated action. Police registered an FIR of missing person at Civil Lines police station on Sunday after the family approached the Superintendent of Police, Rampur and complained about local police’s inaction in the case.
“A police team also found the woman (minor girl according to her family) who accused her family of forcibly keeping her with them. She has also lodged an FIR against her family,” SP, Rampur, SH Meena was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
Contradictions in Statements of Girl, Her Family and Police
According to the police, the girl has said that she was not kidnapped and she has also lodged a case against her family members, accusing them of forcibly keeping her with them.
But in the police complaint filed by Mahek’s mother Rayeesan, she has stated that her daughter worked at MI Care (service centre of the mobile company) where she met Manoj Saxena and Sachin Sharma. The two took her to Gowri Tour & Travels to provide her training. As reported in Inquilab Urdu daily, the family claimed that when she didn’t return home on 29th September, they went to the Gowri Tour & Travels in search of her, where Manoj and Sachin along with four other people told them that they had kidnapped Mahek and raped her. They also told the family that she had become a Hindu and they sold her for flesh trade.
Regarding the age of the girl, there are also conflicting claims by the police and the family.
The family has submitted Xerox copies of Mahek’s school certificates, Aadhaar card and PAN card in support of their claim that she is 14 years old only. Mahek’s date of birth as per her high school certificate is 5th April 2004. But police claimed that she is 24 and gave the photocopy of a document to the family in which girl’s name was mentioned as Arya Agarwal and her date of birth was shown 5th June 1994.
The family has demanded a DNA test of Mahek.
Meanwhile, the police have sent the girl to a shelter home and started enquiry after the orders from SP, Rampur and DIG (Moradabad) and IGP (Bareilly).
Some reports say a saffron outfit is allegedly kidnapping Muslim girls, prepares false documents to show them as Hindu girls and forces the kidnapped girls to write a police complaint that she is Hindu and her family is forcing her to marry a Muslim boy.
