NEW DELHI: In the National Capital to discuss the case of Kathua girl child (who was gang-raped and killed in January) with Supreme Court lawyers, Advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat has told media that she is receiving threat from the side of the accused persons.

Despite strong odds, Deepika has been fighting the case of the eight-year-old girl who was brutally gang-raped and murdered inside a temple in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir in mid-January this year.

“I don’t know till when I will be alive. I can be raped, my modesty can be outraged, I can be killed, I can be damaged. I was threatened yesterday that ‘we will not forgive you’,” Deepika, a single parent to a five-year-old daughter told ANI news agency on Sunday. She also said that she would inform the Supreme Court that her life is in danger.

She also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should rein in his party men.

The charge-sheet in the case of gang-rape and murder of the girl from Bakherwal tribal community was submitted to the Kathua court last Monday night amidst strong protest by a section of local lawyers. They were trying to physically prevent the prosecution officials from filing the charge-sheet.

Earlier, several protests backed by local BJP leaders have been taken out in Kathua and Jammu in support of the eight accused persons.

The details of the heinous act surfaced following the submission of the charge-sheet have shocked and shaken the nation. The issue hit national and international headlines and massive protest demonstrations across the country for justice to the victim. After several days of silence, PM Modi spoke and condemned the Kathua incident and also the rape of a teenage girl allegedly by a BJP lawmaker in Unnao. He has assured justice.
