The charge-sheet in the case of gang-rape and murder of the girl from Bakherwal tribal community was submitted to the Kathua court last Monday night amidst strong protest by a section of local lawyers. They were trying to physically prevent the prosecution officials from filing the charge-sheet.
Earlier, several protests backed by local BJP leaders have been taken out in Kathua and Jammu in support of the eight accused persons.
The details of the heinous act surfaced following the submission of the charge-sheet have shocked and shaken the nation. The issue hit national and international headlines and massive protest demonstrations across the country for justice to the victim. After several days of silence, PM Modi spoke and condemned the Kathua incident and also the rape of a teenage girl allegedly by a BJP lawmaker in Unnao. He has assured justice.
