NEW DELHI — The round of assembly elections in five states is over with Rajasthan and Telangana finished off polling on Friday. Votes will be counted on December 11.

The ruling BJP is set to face humiliation in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh as the mood of the voters and exit poll showed.

In Rajasthan, overall 72.65 per cent voting was recorded when polling in the Assembly elections came to a close on Friday. The elections were largely peaceful barring a few sporadic incidents of violence.

Election in Ramgarh constituency of Alwar district was put off following the death of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Laxman Singh.

The Congress, meanwhile, has complained to the Election Commission (EC) about malfunctioning of around 400 VVPAT machines.

In Telengana, voter turnout remained about 70 per cent on Friday as the polling largely been peaceful. This is the first full-fledged election in India’s youngest election. In the 2014 elections held in united Andhra Pradesh, Telangana had registered a voter turnout of 68.9 per cent.

In some polling centres, the process started late due to technical glitches in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

The present states assembly elections are very crucial for all the political parties to show their strength as parliamentary elections are round the corner.

In Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram  and Madhya Pradesh Congress is in a strong position. TRS is in strong position in Telangana but Congress is also faring well according to exit polls of different agencies.
