NEW DELHI — Ahead of the Modi Government’s mega show to mark the three years in office, the main opposition, Congress party, on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the government describing it “lipapoti sarkar” (cover up) which wasted three years by indulging in only “falsehoods”. The party also announced of launching a nation-wide public campaign along with other like-minded forces in the next 24 months to expose this government.
Fielding a bevy of young leaders to address a specially convened press conference here at the Party headquarters, the party highlighted the Modi government’s “failures” on various counts including issues of dealing with the Pakistan and Kashmir policy, internal security, women safety and rising cases of rapes, atrocities on Dalits, high petrol and diesel prices, besides generation of jobs.
Party’s in-charge of communications Randeep Surjewala said the party led by Rahul Gandhi would expose the “failures” of the government before the public in every nook and corner of the country.
“To expose the falsehood of the BJP, the Congress party in the next 24 months will launch an extensive country-wide public campaign after bringing all such like-minded and those forces troubled by this government.”
On internal security and Kashmir, the Congress leaders said the situation in Kashmir has gone from bad to worse while the youth are come out on the streets. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Surjewala said the PM’s refrain is “we do not need to take any lesson on Kashmir from others” but what is happening in Kashmir no need to mention.
So far 200 soldiers were killed during the last three years and 1374 ceasefire violation incidents reported at LoC. He recalled that when the UPA was in power, these BJP leaders used to taunt us after every happening at LoC or in Kashmir.
“BJP leader Simriti Irani asked then PM Manmohan Singh should have to wear bangles on his hands” while Sushma Swaraj asked for bringing 10 heads for one head and another leader Ram Madhav thundered that “for breaking one tooth, we would break whole jaw.”
Where these leaders bravery have gone now? The Congress leader asked.
Blaming PDP- BJP coalition government for the mess, he said “it is a marriage of convenience that is responsible for the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir.”
After the Pathankot attack, there are 3000 such camps which need high security and for this a sum of Rs 2000 crores needed but not a single penny was released by the Government till date, he said.
The Congress said the present government’s Kashmir policy is a total failure that aggravated the problem further.
He also said this government does not consult with opposition parties on security or foreign affairs related issues. He described the attitude of the government as “It is my way or it is the high way”.
In a power-point presentation, the party leaders also highlighted the “failures” of the Modi government on bringing back black money, GST, Aadhaar, renaming of UPA schemes, Digital and Skill India and not addressing the problem of farm debt.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, RPN Singh, Sushmita Dev and Divya Spandana also raised the issues of rising cases of intolerance in the country and of attempts being made to change the narrative rather than focusing on resolving public problems.
They also attacked RSS, the parent organization of this government saying its leaders are openly espousing of doing away with reservation for Dalits and Tribals and communal hatred in the country.
Coming down heavily on the government for allowing communal tension and violence in the name of ‘Cow protection and Love Jihad and nationalism etc, Scindia said when Modi government came to power, it kindled a lot of hope by selling the dream of bringing “achhe din” in the country, but in the last three years it “shattered people’s dreams”.
“There is an environment of intolerance prevailing in the country. If anybody discusses it, they are termed as anti- national.
“This government decides what the people should eat, learn and wear. It tries to push its policies based on a regimented ‘soch vichar’ (ideological approach),” he said and added that the country cannot move forward without secularism, communal harmanoy and liberal ethos.
On corruption, the Congress leaders said the truth is that the entire landscape of BJP is mired with one corruption scam after another and the truth also is that revenge has become the DNA of BJP Government while the senior functionaries of the government trying to help fugitives like Vijaya Mallya and Lalit Modi escape the country.
When asked the current raids on the Opposition leaders, Surjewala said the Congress asked the Modi Government, whether VYAPAM is not a corruption Scam and has Prime Minister taken action against Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan who was also the Medical Education Minister.
“May we ask the Prime Minister under what circumstances did Smt. Vasundhara Raje submit an affidavit in favour of a fugitive from law and told British authorities to not disclose that affidavit to Indian authorities. Has he taken action against Rajasthan CM? May we ask Hon’ble Prime Minister what action has he taken on the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Scam where Rs. 20,000 crore of exchequer money was lost when he himself was the CM of the State”.
On another question related to joint on Presidential candidate of the opposition and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s suggestion for nominating incumbent president, Congress leader said Congress President and Congress Vice President will confer with various people i.e. the leaders of other political parties and will try and build a consensus around it.
Sachin Pilot said the Congress would present a better alternative model of governance before the people of the country and will expose the BJP on its “failure to fulfill the lofty promises made before coming to power”.
“We will prepare a blueprint of an alternative model of governance and not by selling lies to the people,” he said.
During the press conference a video entitled “Teen saal barbaad, lipapoti sarkar” was also screened exposing the promises made by Modi and BJP leadership but they failed to keep their words. In footage, the video shows the PM announcing a package of Rs 80 068 crores for Jammu Kashmir on November 7, 2015 but not a single penny was released till date. The party ascertained this fact through RTI.
