NEW DELHI – West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that the country is going through a “Super Emergency. Without referring the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mamata said this in a tweet on Friday, the International Day of Democracy.

She urged secular parties to fight the Lok Sabha elections together “to restore the democratic institutions of this great nation.”

“Today is International Day of Democracy. It anguishes me that our country is currently going through a ‘Super Emergency’. All like-minded parties should come together in 2019 to restore the democratic institutions of this great nation,” tweeted Trinamool Congress chief Mamata.

She has been one of strong critics of PM Modi and policies of his central government. She was the first to come out strongly against Modi government’s decision to demonetise old notes of Rs 500 and 1000.
