NEW DELHI — Taking note of the arrests of Muslim youth in terror cases, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH), one of the largest Muslim Organizations, blamed the country’s intelligence agencies for encouraging terrorism in India.

In a day-long meeting organised on February 7, Jamiat’s National Working Committee, “expressed deep concern over recent arresting of innocent people on the flimsy ground in terror-related cases”. The Committee passed a resolution in this regard and reiterated its old stand on the matter.

Blaming partisan attitude of intelligence services for encouraging terrorism in the country, the Committee said, “Several courts have given a clean-chit to many innocent who have been indiscriminately arrested over suspicion in terror-related cases. This notion puts a question mark over the credibility of intelligence agencies. Now it has become a public discourse that intelligence agencies are involved in implicating youths. Jamiat while terming terrorism against the spirit of Islam and Jihad condemns all its forms and appeals to Muslims especially the young generation to exercise restraint and to not fall into anyone’s trap.”

In recent months, security agencies have arrested Muslim youths in connection with terror cases. These arrests were criticized by social activists and concerned citizens citing flimsy evidence to arrest them. Jamiat has been providing legal assistance to Muslim youth arrested over terror allegations.

The meeting of JUH National Working Committee was called to “deliberate upon the situation arising out” of the resignation of Jamiat’s General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani who had “offered to resign from the post citing personal reasons”.

The organization decided in its Working Committee meeting which was presided by Jamiat’s president Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mnasurpoori that Maulana Madani would continue being the general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind.

In the meeting, Jamiat also constituted a committee to “oversee its centenary celebrations” and another committee for Jamiat Youth Club.
