NEW DELHI – Jamia Millia Islamia has invited application from those interested to appear for the written test and interview in order to avail free coaching for Union Public Service Commission’s examination along with hostel facility. Jamia’s Residential Coaching Academy provides free of cost coaching to the UPSC aspirants hailing from the minority community – Dalit, ST/SC and Muslim communities. Women candidates are also given preference.
From April 24 the application forms have been made available to the aspirants on Jamia’s website (jmicoe.in). The last date for the online submission of the form is June 25. The application fee for the entrance examination is Rs 650. All graduates are eligible for this test, which shall be held across 12 centres – Srinagar, Jammu, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Bombay, Lucknow, Guwahati, Patna, Bengaluru, Trivandrum and Chennai.
The written test will be conducted on July 7, between 10 am to 1 pm and the result will be announced on July 30.
“Written test would comprise General Studies (objective type) on UPSC model and Essay writing in English/Hindi/Urdu to test candidate’s ability to express themselves in an organised and structured manner. The total duration of examination would be of three hours,” reads the notification issued by the Jamia’s Residential Coaching Academy. Aspirants need to be careful as they will get negative marking for every wrong answer that you give in the objective question section. According to the notice one-third of the marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
There will be two papers for the written test. Paper 1 will consist of objective type questions and Paper 2 is essay writing. There would be 60 questions in Paper 1 and the total marks for this section would be 60 (60×1=60). Students will be allotted 1 hour for this paper. In the second paper, the candidates are required to write two essays for 60 marks in two hours.
There will be an interview and a personality test for 30 marks. The interview will be conducted between August 5 to 10. And the final result of the interview will be announced on August 20. “In case of a tie, the candidate with a higher score in the essay will get preference and if there is still a tie again then the candidate with higher marks in interview will get selected. If there is still a tie then the candidate who is younger (age wise) would get the seat,” said the notification.
There are 150 seats available for free coaching. All the qualified student will be provided with hostel facility. “Hostel accommodation will be provided to all the admitted students. In case of shortage, hostel seats may be allotted in a phased manner strictly on the basis of merit determined by the entrance test. However, RCA reserves the right to reduce the intake if sufficiently meritorious candidates are not found to be available,” said the notification. However, the notice further read, “Any candidate who has already availed RCA, JMI facility for three years and has never appeared for an interview will not be eligible to fill the form and appear in the entrance test”. Some of the students on the basis of their merit will also be provided with a scholarship of Rs 2000 per month.
This year 42 students from the Jamia coaching centre have cracked the UPSC examination including Junaid Ahmed who secured the third position at the all India level. One of its students Shahid Raza Khan, who comes from a madarsa background also cleared the UPSC exam this year.
