NEW DELHI — After the results of Assembly polls in five states were out on Tuesday, Congress lawmaker was quick to throw a jibe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), adding that the public gave them ‘triple talaq.’

BJP suffered humiliation as it lost all five states that went to polls, including three party ruled states — Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Congress emerged as victorious in the three states and is set to form the government.

There were resounding victories in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, and a clear, if close, win in Madhya Pradesh for Congress.

“No wonder the BJP is so upset today. The voters just gave them a triple talaq,” Tharoor said, making a reference to BJP government’s work towards banning the Islamic practice of divorce.

By referring to the ‘triple talaq’ he meant the troika of losses for BJP in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Congress and Rajasthan.

Earlier in the day, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also taunted the BJP with a playful take on its slogan for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections: “Abki baar, Modi sarkaar (This time, bring in Modi’s government).”

“Abki baar, kho di sarkaar,” he tweeted shortly, which translates to “This time, you have lost the governance”.

In a tweet in Hindi Mr Yadav also spoke about and showed confidence on united opposition to bring down the BJP sarkar.

Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday has written an article published in ThePrint titled “Modi voters know they bought an empty package. They won’t keep buying it” that sent a message to Modi government that it is time for you to go. Empty package won’t sell anymore.
