Assam: Lakhs Facing Exclusion From Final NRC List As SC Guidelines Not Being Followed, Says AIUDF Chief

GUWAHATI: Lok Sabha MP from Assam and national president of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has met the Assam state Coordinator of NRC or National Register of Citizenship, alleging that the Supreme Court guidelines regarding preparation of NRC are not being followed properly in the state.

Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri, Ajmal submitted a memorandum to Pratik Hajela, NRC State Coordinator, on behalf of AIUDF and expressed concern that the “SC guidelines in regard to the updation of NRC are being not followed properly, possibly leading to exclusion of several lacs of Indian citizen in the final NRC.”

The NRC is being prepared under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Lakhs of people, mostly Muslims, who are living in the state for decades and centuries are likely to lose Indian citizenship.

It is said that authorities are questioning the citizenship of thousands of people just because of typing or spelling mistakes in their personal details in the documents.
